Retirement is that wonderful time when your investments, together with Social Security and any pensions you have earned, generate as much income each year as you earned on your job. Therefore, you can quit your job and live the same way, the same lifestyle as when you were working. When you will be able to retire depends on how much money you are able to invest each year, and how many years you have been investing. And obviously, if you earn 12% on your investments, you will be able to retire sooner than if you only earn 5% or 6%.

Retirement living is more than just arranging your retirement income. You will suddenly have a lot of time on your hands. With good retirement planning, you will be very happy, with time to do a lot of things that you couldn't do before:
Play more golf or other sports
Spend more time with your kids and grandhildren
