In most states, if you own and drive a car, you are required by law to have auto insurance.
Everybody needs health insurance, so get the best you can afford. If you are eligible to join a group health insurance plan, do it. Group insurance is less expensive than individual plans.
Buy life insurance if you are supporting your family with young children and they are dependent on your income. Term insurance is less expensive than whole life or universal life.
If you own your home, you need homeowner's insurance. Your home is a valuable asset and the insurance will pay for needed repairs to your home due to accidents, fire or storms. It will also pay to replace your home if it is destroyed. The contents of your home will also be covered in case of burglary.
